Massage And Energizing Facials

Studies show that women who massage their face have better complexions than those who do not. Besides softening the skin, massaging the face stimulates the circulation in the surface blood vessels that bring “life” to the complexion.

When you attempt to massage your face remember it is very important to first apply a cream or oil to your face. This will help your fingers slide over the skin. Otherwise you will be pulling and stretching the skin which could cause damage. Massaging the face should be done in an upward and outward motion and do not drag downward.

Another suggestion is to do your facial massage in the privacy of your bathroom. This way you can strip to the waist and also massage the neck and shoulders. A shower cap, headband or a towel can be used to help secure your hair back to treat the whole face.

The procedure for massaging your face is to use both hands and apply a cream or oil. And apply more lubricant as needed. Use your hands and have the elbows up and out away from your body. Use your thumbs for anchoring and then massage the face with your fingertips.

Areas to massage are neck and chest, jaw, cheek, mouth, eye area, forehead, and nose.

Massage the right side of your throat and neck with the left hand and the left side with your right hand. Stroke your hands up to the hairline, going behind the ears. Apply pressure to the pressure point just behind and below the ear. Slide your hands up your neck and press into the bass of your skull. This would be a good time to also massage the back of your neck.

When massaging that double chin area use the heel of the thumb of each hand, the right hand on the right side and alternating hands. You should make upward and outward circles. When doing this, press the flesh against the bone.

Massaging the cheek area you should anchor the thumbs under the jaw and start with the fingers close to the jaw and work them up the cheeks toward the top of the ear.

Hold your mouth slightly taut, massage lightly in a circular direction around the lips using the first two fingers and then reverse.

Massaging the nose area you should use the middle finger, alternating hands and rub downward on the nose, using your first two fingers, press the pressure points just under your nostrils. Finish the nose area by making circles at the side of each nostril.

The eye area is sensitive and should not be rubbed. Holding the skin around the eyes slightly taut with the fingers of one hand, use your ring finger of the other hand to massage lightly around the orbital bone of the eye, tracing circles in each direction. It is important to use plenty of cream.

Using your first two fingers, start between the brows and massage out towards the temples in long and smooth movements. Stop for a moment just at the top of the middle of the brows and press firmly. Then stop again at the outer edge of the brow and press firmly. In doing the forehead, you should anchor the thumbs on the temples. Start at the bridge of the nose and rub up and outward with alternating hands and repeat.

Massaging to erase wrinkles—
  1. Laughter lines around the mouth. You should puff up the cheeks with air and gently massage the laughter lines with an upward, outward circular motion. Pat the puff with outward strokes.

  2. Laughter line at the corners of the eyes. This area should be done very lightly using the middle and ring finger to make small upward and outward circles.

  3. Massage across your frown lines between your eyebrows with horizontal strokes. Alternate hands, but keep both thumbs anchored on temples.

  4. A circular motion across the furrows on the forehead should be used first with one hand and then the other.
If you have a few minutes extra before bedtime you may want to combine a massage with your night time regime.

For instance, you can cleanse and cream your face just before your bath; after your bath of warm and cool water, you can place a large towel on the bed and rub your entire body with your favorite lotion or oil. While lying on the towel, swing both your legs up in the air where you can reach them with your hands while lying on your back. You will be getting the stimulation of warm and cold temperatures, the stimulation of massage and the stimulation of changing the flow of blood by having your feet in the air.

Here are five things to sum up a massage:
  1. Never massage without a cream or lubricant.

  2. Be gentle to your skin so you won’t stretch the skin or cause irritation.

  3. You can be gentle but firm.

  4. Never drag downward on your face but use upward, outward motions.

  5. A massage is beneficial for all types of skin.
Every time you are tempted to neglect the daily care of you skin think about the old saying “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.”
