Tips for Thinking Spring

Just think spring is just around the corner and you will be wearing shorts and maybe a swimsuit soon too. Hopefully you have been faith about your New Year’s Resolutions and will be ready to fit back into your swimsuit.

Most everyone has two major wardrobes: summer clothes and winter clothes. It is time to take a clothing inventory of your summer wardrobe.

Hopefully when you are doing your inventory you aren’t one that says “I have absolutely nothing to wear, as you stand in front of your closet full of clothes. Your summer wardrobe will include cottons, beach clothes, pastel shoes or sandals.

When you think of your summer wardrobe and it is only one-fourth as long as the other seasons, you should plan on a minimum wardrobe for this time of year. Then you will be able to save your money for the more social winter months if you can sew your own cottons.

Usually your summer cotton dresses don’t require the fine tailoring techniques as you would sew a suit. If you come across a dress that makes you feel inferior, it might be a good time to discard it.

You will be checking to see what items you may need to coordinate with the items you already have. It is up to you to get all your clothes in tip top condition.

Or, you may just be ready to go shopping for a new pair of shorts to go with that favorite top. When you are considering where you want to go shopping such as the various department stores don’t leave out the idea of finding a bargain at a second-hand or consignment shop. Sometimes you just may find two or three pair of shorts that will go with that special top.

It is always good to think about coordinating your outfits. Then you may also find a bright springy colored top or shorts to give you that uplift.

It is time to start thinking about getting your tan started for wearing your short outfits or swimsuit.

Here are a few tips to help you look your best:
  • You will need to keep up with your daily moisturizer and sunscreen.

  • After showering use an exfoliant on the rough skin of your elbows and knees. Otherwise when you are tanning that area will show up darker.

  • Pat your skin completely dry with a soft towel after showering.

  • Along your hairline and over your eyebrows apply a small amount of petroleum jelly. This will help this area from getting darker from the tanning lotion.

  • Apply the tanning lotion in a long, smooth and vertical motion instead of horizontal strokes. This will help avoid streaking.

  • If you apply a small amount of hand lotion to your palms and then wash your hand well when you are done applying the tanning lotion, it will help prevent your palms getting tanned.

  • Before getting dressed, let your tanning lotion dry for about half an hour.

May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month. This is a good time to check your moles or spots that are changing, or a wound that won’t heal.

Learn to do regular skin checks yourself. Doing a regular self-examination is the best way to become familiar with the many moles and spots your skin may have.

Then with the help of a family member or friend, you should examine your skin, including the hard-to-see areas such as your back or the back of your neck.

You should pay special attention to the size, shape, edges, and color of the moles.

Your awareness of the possibility of any skin cancer should be ongoing after May.
