Treating Yourself to a Home Spa Night

Give yourself the gift of a home spa night once or twice a month, depending on your schedule. It just takes the dedication of only one to one and a half hours for total self-indulgence. You will be amazed at how much better you will look and feel.

So many times we get busy with kids or work and forget to take time for ourselves. You don’t need much to create your home spa night. You can turn your bathroom into a personal spa and think totally of relaxing and clear your mind. Find some relaxing soft music to play while you are pampering yourself.

The most important thing is to set that time aside for yourself.

A home spa night may include the following: a deep hair-conditioning treatment, hair removal for face and body, exfoliation of the face and body, a pedicure and a manicure.

You will need the following grooming or relaxation products to turn your bathroom into a home spa:

  • An aromatherapy candle/soft music CD
  • Deep-conditioning treatment for your hair
  • Shower cap
  • Facial cleanser
  • Facial mask for your skin type
  • Eyebrow tweezers
  • Razor/cream hair remover
  • Loofah or brush
  • Epsom salts
  • Sweet smelling soap
  • Body scrub
  • Bath crystals and/or aromatherapy bath oil or essential oils for the bath
  • Bath pillow/herbal eye pillow
  • Pumice stone/orangewood stick
  • Large fluffy bath towel
  • Body moisturizer (such as one with the ingredient of cocoa butter) or oil
  • Eye cream
  • Light facial moisturizer
  • Lip balm
Before beginning your spa time in the bathroom, it is nice to start out by drinking a large glass of water with lemon or an herbal tea. To create the relaxing environment in the bathroom, light your scented candle and turn your relaxing music on.

You can start by deep-conditioning your hair: put the conditioner in your dampen hair and coat the ends thoroughly, wrap it with a shower cap to hold the moisture in. You can wrap a large towel around your head to keep the conditioner off your skin.

Now you can wash your face and use an exfoliating mask. Next you can tweeze or pluck your eyebrows and check for any other unwanted hair on the face. Before getting into the bathtub to soak, you may want to turn out the lights while soaking in the tub.

There is nothing like a nice, warm, up-to-the-neck bath to soak away tension while encouraging relaxation. When preparing your bath you may add some bath salts or a few drops of essential oils, as they will work hard to counteract the effects of your body skin cycle while you soak. Using a scent such as lavender helps revive and smooth at the same time.

When you first step into the tub, sit back, get comfortable and inhale deeply through your nose and exhale through your mouth until you start to feel your body relax.

For your scrub you can use a loofah and handfuls of Epson salts directly on dampened skin to exfoliate the skin on your body. Not only are Epson salts inexpensive but they are also great for soaking your muscles and exfoliating the skin on your body. It isn’t suggested to use Epson salts if you are going to shave your legs as the salts can irritate freshly shaved legs. You can either shave the next day or just loofah to exfoliate.

If you haven’t given yourself a manicure or pedicure in a while you can file your nails and brush clean. A good time to push back the cuticles on your hands and feet is while you are soaking in the tub. The warm water makes the cuticles easier to push back. You can keep it simple by using an orangewood stick for your cuticles. Also you can rub your feet with a pumice stone to smooth the calluses.

You can lay back, rest on your pillow and place a herbal eye pillow, a cool cloth or cucumber slices on our eyes until you are ready to get out of the tub. To get the full impact of the essentials oils or bath salts on your skin and muscles it is a good idea to try to soak for a good 20 minutes.

After soaking, it is time to rinse off the deep-conditioning out of your hair. Finishing your relaxing time, you may want to put on a thick moisturizer on your skin. When applying the moisturizer be generous with the body lotion and for best results move your hands across your skin in a circular motion.

Start massaging the lotion onto your arms while standing; then proceed to your shoulders, back of the neck, your breasts, your stomach, your behind, your back and your upper legs. You can sit down to massage the feet, ankles and calves. And don’t forget to massage your hands (back, palm and each finger) with lotion. Your skin should be moist, smooth and tingling all over. Then put on your bathrobe and let the lotion finish soaking in.

The last steps are applying eye cream, a light moisturizer, and a little lip balm unless you are in the mood to paint your fingernails and toenails. For best results, your nails should be free of all oils before polishing them.

Use your imagination for your home spa and do things that help relax and enjoy your special time.
