What Do Dogs Do On Their Day Off?

When I meet somebody new, it doesn’t take long for the conversation to turn to spare-time activities.

"What do you do on your day off?" I’m likely to ask.

People do a variety of things in their spare time. Golf. Shopping. Gardening. Hiking. Sightseeing. Movies. Concerts. Travel. Leisure activities are endless.

Endless that is unless you’re talking to a workaholic. All they do is work. But I don’t want to talk about people like that. They’re out of balance and quite frankly are just plain boring. All they know is their work. Ho hum.

Being the introspective person that I am, I’ve been doing some serious thinking on this subject. I want to be a well-balanced person, so I’m careful to avoid getting into a rut.

I like to read, hike, sail, work in my garden and my shop, fish, watch football, play tennis, browse antique and flea markets, and attend street festivals. I also like to travel, write, listen to music, dine at a gourmet restaurant, or pig out in a barbecue joint. In fact, there isn’t anything I’m not interested in from time to time. But, lot’s of times I just lie around and do nothing.

While I was doing my heavy thinking, Pluto, my faithful yellow lab, was lying on his back with all four feet sticking straight up into the air. His lips sagged to the floor, forming huge troughs that could hold a can of beer.

Occasionally, he’d roll over and look at me, raising a questioning eyebrow, trying to appear interested in me. But his job kept getting the best of him.

Watching this huge dog perform his job, caused me to wonder: What does a dog do on HIS day off?

He can’t just lie around; that’s his job. In fact, I believe Pluto has become a workaholic!
